On September 30, 2004 Merck & Co., Inc. voluntarily withdrew the arthritis drug Vioxx from the market due to its dangerous and possibly deadly side effects. A recent three year study which has determined that there are serious side effects associated with Vioxx, a Cox - 2 inhibitor used to treat arthritis, has prompted Merck to conduct a voluntary recall of the drug. The following is a list of some of the serious side effects associated with Vioxx:
